- First Defense Legal Aid
When it comes to Chicago's problems with police misconduct and false confessions, volunteering with First Defense Legal Aid lets you be a part of the solution! FDLA runs a unique 24/7/365 hotline that provides free, direct legal representation to individuals while they are in Chicago Police custody.
FDLA's monthly volunteer orientation teaches attorneys and 711 law students the basics of station house defense--how to represent arrestees while they are in the custody of the Chicago Police Department--and the mechanics of FDLA's hotline.
Attendees are eligible for 1.5 hours of MCLE credit and have the opportunity to sign up for hotline shifts and make station visits to represent persons held in custody. Access to reliable transportation is neeeded to volunteer. With questions and RSVPs, please email volunteer[at]first-defense.org.
