The Pro Bono Manager is responsible for working with the Director of Pro Bono Activities and Pro Bono Committee to manage the administration of the Pro Bono Program. This role supports the Director of Pro Bono Activities and other Mayer Brown lawyers with respect to representation of the firm’s pro bono clients.

  • Assist with managing the firm’s pro bono activities in the Chicago office
  • Identify new pro bono opportunities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with outside public interest law organizations to develop new pro bono opportunities
  • Ensure that new pro bono matters are evaluated, screened for conflicts of interest, staffed with appropriate teams, and approved for representation
  • Recruit firm attorneys to accept pro bono work
  • Coordinate pro bono related trainings and other programs
  • Meet with lawyers to understand and track their areas of pro bono interest in order to more effectively match pro bono opportunities
  • Serve as an information source for attorneys handling pro bono matters
  • Provide oversight of legal clinics and other firm pro bono projects
  • Manage transition of pro bono matters of departing attorneys
  • Supervise pro bono matters, as necessary
  • Works with Director of Pro Bono Activities in the administration/management of the firm’s pro bono practice
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of knowledge management tools and knowledge management websites
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of data regarding pro bono efforts
  • Assist in the writing and producing of pro bono publications, guides, articles and marketing materials
  • Assist in responding to external pro bono surveys and reports
  • Assist in responding to audit letters
  • Assist with monitoring expenses related to pro bono matters and administration of the pro bono program
  • Assist with coordinating firm-wide pro bono initiatives including annual pro bono awards program
  • Assist with coordinating pro bono orientation programs for new and summer associates
  • Oversee work of pro bono coordinator, as necessary


Law degree and license to practice in the State of Illinois (or eligibility for admission) required

  • Minimum of five years of legal experience working at a public interest law organization or law firm
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) required
  • Prior experience with database use and maintenance preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in order to address a wide diverse population of employees
  • Keen organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred
