Senior Attorney

  • Law Project of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless

70 East Lake Street
Suite 720
Chicago, IL 60601

Job Description: The Law Project of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless is seeking a new Senior Attorney to provide legal representation and advocacy for individuals, children and families experiencing homeless through both litigation and policy work.

Organized in 1980, CCH is the only non-profit in Illinois solely dedicated to advocating for and with people who experience homelessness. Staffed by community organizers, public policy specialists, and legal aid attorneys, our advocacy is done in partnership with the people who benefit by our work: Homeless students, unaccompanied youth, parents, ex-offenders, and low-wage workers work with CCH staff and community volunteers. Together, we advocate to develop affordable housing, preserve a shelter safety net, and protect access to public schools and school services, health care, fair wage jobs, and basic human rights and services. CCH creates opportunities where people who have coped with homelessness are shown that their voice matters.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct legal representation to homeless children and families in education-related disputes, street-based individuals in civil rights claims, and homeless or at-risk persons in other civil legal matters through litigation or administrative processes. • Develop and implement policy strategies to address systemic civil rights issues impacting homeless persons, including access to housing, education and alternative court models.

  • Assist Law Project Director and Associate Director with supervision of staff, litigation and other projects as needed.
