You may need child care in order to go to work or attend an education or training activity. If you cannot afford child care, the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) may be able to help you.
DHS helps parents who work or take part in approved education or training programs pay for childcare.
Who is eligible?
Your family may be covered to receive assistance if it:
- Receives TANF and is following its personal plan by doing work and training activities
- Is transitioning from TANF to work
- Is at risk of receiving TANF
- Has special needs; or
- It works but still has very low incomes.
Effective July 1, 2017, you may be eligible for help with childcare services even if you don't receive TANF benefits. But you still must show that you need the childcare help to attend education or training activities.
You should check with DHS to see if you qualify. Your family size and monthly income are important factors. DHS can also control how long you receive services.
