A power of attorney for health care lets you name another person to make healthcare decisions for you any time you can't make a decision for yourself. This person is an agent. The agent can make all kinds of medical decisions for you. These decisions are not just about medical care that would delay your death.
A living will only applies to medical care that only delays your death when you have a terminal condition.
You can have a power of attorney for health care and a living will. The agent named in the power of attorney for health care will make all decisions about your health care. Your doctor won't use your living will unless your agent is not available. If your agent is not available, your doctor will follow your living will. Your doctor will follow what your agent decides even if it goes against your living will.
