Job Description
Are you a lawyer driven by a passion for justice and eager to make a tangible impact in your community? DuPage Legal Aid is looking for a full-time Staff Attorney to join our dedicated team. This opportunity is perfect for professionals returning to the legal field after a career break or for anyone deeply committed to public service.
In this role, you will handle a diverse caseload of family law matters, including divorces, parental decision-making, parenting time issues, orders of protection, and guardianship cases. You will work exclusively in DuPage County, eliminating the need for extensive travel. If you have litigation experience and are comfortable in trial settings, you will find this role fulfilling and impactful. This position is litigation heavy. If you are not interested in litigation or being in court, this position may not be right for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle a variety of family law cases.
- Report directly to the Executive Director.
- Work collaboratively with a dedicated team of professionals.
Qualifications
- Admission to the Illinois State Bar.
- Legal practice experience preferred, but not required.
- Excellent oral and written advocacy skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- The ability to work in and value a collaborative team model, pro-bono and public service experience is preferred.
- Ability to commute to company office in Wheaton and DuPage County Judicial Center.
- Spanish language proficiency (written and verbal) strongly preferred.
Pay scale and benefits
- Starting salary of $83,000, with opportunities for annual increases and performance-based bonuses.
- Paid Time Off (PTO):
- 10 paid vacation days annually
- 8 paid personal days annually
- 3 paid bereavement days
- Paid Holidays:
- 14 federal holidays
- Office-wide holiday break from December 24 through January 2
- SEP IRA enrollment after one year of employment, with a 10% employer contribution.
- $450 monthly medical insurance stipend
- Health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- Employer-provided $10,000 life insurance policy.
