At ILAO, we believe in opening opportunities for justice, and Legal Content Volunteers (LCVs) are essential to helping us meet that mission. ILAO delivers easy-to-understand legal information and assistance to those who can't afford a lawyer. Our website contains over 1,700 pages of legal content, and our resources are translated into Spanish. To maintain these resources, ILAO relies on LCVs to help review our content for legal accuracy.
With over 9,000 people accessing ILAO’s information each day, the work of our LCVs makes a big impact!
Who can volunteer?
To be an LCV, you must:
- Be a licensed, Illinois attorney, and
- Have access to a legal research system.
We also generally ask that volunteers have expertise in the content area they will be reviewing.
Why volunteer as an LCV?
The LCV program is an opportunity to use your experience and expertise to help increase access to justice. ILAO wants to make your volunteer experience as easy and rewarding as possible. Here are some of the great things about becoming an LCV:
- You can volunteer from anywhere: All LCV projects can be completed remotely, so you can complete your project wherever you like, whenever you can.
- You can choose your own project: Pick the resources you want to work on based on your expertise and interest.
- You can choose when you volunteer: You can choose when and how frequently you take on projects based on what works best with your schedule.
- We’re here to help: Our Legal Content Managers are available to support you throughout your project.
