Description
We are seeking interested attorneys who will help immigrants complete their asylum applications. As a pro bono attorney, you'll play a vital role in ensuring that those fleeing persecution have access to the legal help they desperately need to pursue safety and security in the United States.
When: Wednesday, December 18th 4:30-7:30 p.m. At CVLS: 33 N. Dearborn, Ste. 400, Chicago, IL 60602. Dinner provided!
What You Will Do:
- 4:30-5:30: 1 hour in person CLE Training: Gain valuable knowledge and hands-on skills focused on the preparation of limited scope asylum applications. You’ll receive guidance on the legal requirements, procedural nuances, and practical steps involved in completing asylum forms and supporting clients in their journey.
- 5:30-7:30: Work with Clients: After the training, you'll have the opportunity to work directly with individuals seeking asylum, helping them complete the necessary forms (such as the I-589 application) and prepare their case for submission. Your help is limited only to application preparation. You'll provide crucial legal support in a way that makes a real difference to someone's future.
Why This Matters:
Asylum seekers often face overwhelming challenges, including language barriers, fear of returning to their home countries, and limited access to legal resources. Your expertise will provide a lifeline to those who need it most. By volunteering your time and legal knowledge, you can help ensure that these individuals have a fair chance to present their cases and find safety.
No Experience in Immigration Law? No Problem!
This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your legal practice. Our CLE will equip you with all the tools you need to confidently assist with limited scope asylum applications. Immigration law is complex, but our training will provide clear guidance and resources to support you throughout the process. Additionally, CVLS’s staff immigration attorney will review all applications before submission.
