TASC stands for Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities. TASC is a nonprofit organization that offers people with substance abuse and mental health issues an alternative to incarceration. In addition to court-referred TASC probation , TASC offers treatment planning, case management, and recovery support. For more information, contact the TASC Hotline at 618-418-4777.
Who is eligible for TASC probation?
If you are charged with a crime and have a substance use disorder, the court may allow you to participate in TASC probation instead of imposing a traditional sentence. TASC probation is available only if certain eligibility requirements are met.
You are not eligible for TASC probation if:
- You are being charged with a crime of violence;
- You are being charged on specific sections of the Illinois Controlled Substance Act, the Cannabis Control Act, or the Methamphetamine and Community Protection Act;
- You have two or more violent crime convictions;
- You have any other pending felony charges;
- You are on parole or probation and the supervising authority does not consent ;
- You were admitted to TASC probation 2 prior occasions within a consecutive 2-year period;
- You’ve been convicted of residential burglary and have one or more felony convictions on your record;
- You are being charged with a DUI or similar crime; or
- You are being charged with a reckless homicide or reckless homicide of an unborn child caused by driving under the influence .

How do I vacate the conviction after completing TASC probation?
If you receive TASC probation and successfully complete the program, you may be able to ask the court to vacate your conviction
and dismiss the case.You qualify if all of the following apply:
- You were convicted and sentenced to TASC probation;
- You successfully completed your probation;
- You do not have a previous felony conviction; and
- You have not previously been granted a vacation of judgment under TASC probation.
If you meet these requirements, you can file a Motion
to Vacate a Judgment of Conviction. This Motion must be filed after the judgment was entered, and no later than 60 days after you are discharged from your probation.If you qualify, the judge should vacate the conviction and dismiss the case. However, the judge can deny
your request if they believe that what happened in the case, your background, character, or current situation are reasons not to grant it.Currently, there are no statewide forms to ask the court to vacate a TASC probation. Contact the circuit court clerk where the arrest happened to ask if they have forms you can use. You can also check the circuit clerk’s website.
Can I clear my record after TASC probation?
After your conviction is vacated and the charges are dismissed expunging or sealing a criminal record and waiting periods.
