Job Description
CARPLS is modernizing how legal knowledge is designed, managed, and shared — both within the organization and across Illinois’ Access Initiative, a statewide effort to make it easier for people to find legal help and for advocates to deliver it.
The Knowledge Design & Management position bridges legal expertise and system design, ensuring CARPLS’ knowledge base is structured, current, and actionable for staff, partners, and clients.
This role combines information architecture, content governance, and user experience design. It supports CARPLS’ transition from static documents to modular, dynamic knowledge systems in Salesforce, while contributing to the development of a statewide federated knowledge backbone.
The ideal candidate is both a strategist and a builder — someone who can translate legal insight into organized, sustainable knowledge systems that improve daily workflows and client outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Knowledge Architecture & Governance
- Partner with the Director of Innovation to define and maintain CARPLS’ knowledge architecture, taxonomy, and governance model.
- Transition existing materials into modular “Knowledge Objects” aligned with CARPLS’ DARE framework (Discover, Align, Resolve, Engage).
- Implement sustainable review, versioning, and publication processes that integrate with both CARPLS and statewide systems.
- Monitor and report on content usage, updates, and quality metrics.
Legal Content Management
- Collaborate with the Director of Legal Services and program supervisors to ensure accuracy, plain-language clarity, and alignment with practice guidance.
- Translate subject-matter expertise into structured, searchable resources (guides, checklists, FAQs, templates, decision trees).
- Lead content audits to identify redundancies, gaps, and automation opportunities.
Cross-Organizational Alignment
- Coordinate knowledge alignment with partners such as Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) and the Lawyers Trust Fund (LTF).
- Participate in statewide working groups to prototype shared governance and metadata standards.
- Ensure interoperability between CARPLS’ Salesforce systems and Access Initiative platforms.
User Enablement & Change Management
- Train and support CARPLS staff in knowledge tools and workflows, promoting adoption and feedback loops.
- Develop user-facing documentation and onboarding materials.
- Track adoption trends and incorporate frontline feedback into continuous improvement cycles.
