North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic (NSLAC) is a dynamic nonprofit with a collaborative culture and the goal of becoming the model legal aid organization focused on suburban communities.
The mission of NSLAC is to provide accessible, quality, equitable, free legal services in the areas of domestic violence, housing, and immigration to give low-income, at-risk community members access to justice and the opportunity to live productive and secure lives. NSLAC is an 11-year-old dynamic nonprofit with a collaborative culture and the goal of becoming the model legal aid organization focused on suburban communities.
Position Summary
The Pro Bono Coordinator recruits, supports, and partners with volunteer attorneys and pro bono teams to expand NSLAC’s impact across practice areas. This role helps develop projects, deliver trainings, and oversee clinics and case support to ensure volunteers have what they need to serve clients effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and monitor pro bono projects across all practice areas.
- Develop outreach to recruit new volunteer attorneys.
- Assist in the development and presentation of CLEs and other training materials for private bar attorneys.
- Conduct off-site legal clinics within the Clinic’s service area staffed by pro bono attorneys.
- Oversee and maintain pro bono attorney relationships and monitor case status.
- Triage questions and issues with individual cases and seek technical assistance from Clinic attorneys as needed.
- Support and grow pro bono partnerships between law firms, companies, members of the private bar, and the Clinic.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills
- J.D. required.
- 2+ years’ experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers (highly preferred).
- Previous experience in a social service or legal aid setting (highly preferred).
- Immigration law experience preferred; domestic violence/family law, housing, and/or elder law experience welcomed.
- Excellent oral and written communication, organization, and research skills.
- Demonstrated team player with exemplary interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and comfort taking initiative.
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced nonprofit start-up environment.
Salary and Benefits:
- $70,000- $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience
- On-Site during normal business hours; Hybrid work available with approval;
