The landlord An owner of property who rents it out to a tenant in charge of a public housing building must have good cause A legally acceptable reason to do something for deciding not to renew a tenant A person who rents a space ’s lease. This is the same as if they wanted to evict the tenant.

Good cause can include criminal activity. Every year, the landlord will do a criminal background check on everyone in the building that is over the age of 18. They may decide not to renew the lease if they find there has been criminal activity.

Other grounds for good cause include:

• Not paying on time,
• Lying on your application,
• Not accepting changes to the lease, or
• Not following the rules in the lease.

However, if your lease is not renewed you should have the option to file a complaint A written statement to start a lawsuit that says what the defendant did or request a hearing When the parties in a case present their sides of a case to a judge or other officer . Note that the owner needs to also follow the law for filing an eviction.
