I missed my Chicago traffic hearing. What now?

If you miss your hearing, the hearing officer may enter a default judgment against you. Default judgment means that you lost your hearing because you did not show up in court. The city will mail you a Notice of Default Judgment if that happens.

You have 21 days from the date of default judgment to file a Motion to Set Aside Default. A Motion to Set Aside Default asks the court to allow you to have a hearing even though you missed the first hearing. You need a good reason why you did not appear at the hearing.

To file a Motion to Set Aside, go to the Information Counter at the Hearing Facility where your hearing was scheduled. For more information, see Changing a court date.
