Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) partners with people and organizations throughout Illinois to deepen our community relationships, inform our legal products, and increase our visibility to further ILAO’s reach and impact.
Legal Self-Help Centers (LSHCs)
ILAO partners with more than 180 public libraries and courthouses throughout Illinois to engage as Legal Self-Help Centers, where people needing legal help can use IllinoisLegalAid.org to learn about their legal rights and responsibilities, get legal forms and instructions, and get referrals to free and low-cost legal services. Our LSHC partners can be found in our directory.
Community partners and Navigators
ILAO partners with community-based organizations throughout Illinois that serve low-income people. ILAO’s community partners help us fulfill our mission by connecting the people they serve with ILAO’s legal information, tools, and referrals. Through collaboration, our partners expand ILAO’s outreach and help us improve our legal information and user experience. We train our partners to find and use the free legal resources and tools on IllinoisLegalAid.org to increase their organizational capacity to help the people they serve and the likelihood that community members will be able to resolve their legal issues.
ILAO’s Community Navigator program, funded through the ILA2J network, serves communities experiencing the devastating effects of mass incarceration and deportation in St. Clair, Macon, Sangamon, Champaign, DuPage, and Kane Counties. Our Community Navigator Managers and volunteers attend community events, educate the public about their rights, connect them with ILAO resources, increase access to the legal system, and establish community partnerships. They also collect information directly from community members and partners about community needs and the community’s most pressing legal issues to improve ILAO’s resources and services. Some of our partners include:
- The INC Spot (Decatur)
- Salt & Light Ministries (Urbana)
- Instituto del Progreso Latino (Chicago)
- Family Resource Center of Effingham County (Effingham)
- St. Vincent de Paul (East St. Louis)
