The Substance Use Disorder Act
The Substance Use Disorder Act is an Illinois law aimed at addressing substance use disorders in the state.
The act directs the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) to try to reduce the number of people struggling with substance use disorders. You can view information on substance use prevention on the IDHS website.

There are several resources available to people in Illinois who are struggling with substance use disorders.
Illinois Helpline
The Illinois Helpline is a free and confidential service that can help you find a treatment and recovery provider. You can also use the hotline to ask about medication assisted treatment (MAT). The hotline is available 24/7.

Illinois overdose prevention programs
IDHS funds several providers of Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution (OEND) services. These providers can help people and organizations get naloxone and access substance use treatment programs. Naloxone is a medicine that reverses an opioid overdose. Naloxone is also available at all Chicago Public Libraries.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
SAMHSA is a federal agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services. SAMHSA provides information and resources for Americans struggling with mental health and substance use disorders.
SAMHSA National Hotline
SAMHSA’s national hotline is confidential, free, and available 24/7. The SAMHSA hotline provides referrals to treatment facilities, support groups, and community organizations.
