Powers of attorney

Powers of attorney (POAs) are legal documents that give someone you trust the power to make decisions for you when you choose or if you are no longer able to make your own decisions. The person you give the power of attorney to is the agent, and you are the principal. In Illinois, there are two types of Powers of Attorney:

  • Power of attorney for health care, and
  • Power of attorney for property.
